The Birth of St John the Baptist

This engraving shows a design by Jacopino del Ponte for the scene in the fresco cycle in the Oratorio di San Giovanni Decollato in Rome. However, this was not realized, the patrons preferred the design by Salviati who executed the fresco in 1551.
