Pierre-Alexis Delamair designed the Htel de Soubise to include a courtyard with a peristyle. The faade displays the rigorous compositional symmetry of yellowish stone and gray slate roof typical of Paris. Its two-storey frontispiece carries no marked features except the reclining figures on the pediment (c. 1710).

In 1732, the prince de Rohan was married and he decided to give a fresh, modern decorative appearance to the residence, built a quarter of a century earlier. He commissioned Germain Boffrand to design a new room, which became known as the Salon Ovale de la Princesse.

The photo shows the faade of the building.
