Palazzo Pisani

by FRIGIMELICA, Girolamo, Photo

Originally the one-story palace was built in 1614-15 by Bartolomeo Manopola. In 1634 it was seriously damaged by earthquake. In 1728 Girolamo Frigimelica was entrusted to extend the palace. He added a second upper floor, and a crowning floor, using an arched window from a demolished attic as the central window. He also created a new wing.

The faade of the palace facing over Campo San Stefano follows the traditional tripartite pattern: at the centre of the ground floor there is a large entrance, while the two upper floors are marked by two large central-arched windows. The whole faade is clad with ashlar work in light coloured stone.
