The Death of St Corbinian

by POLACK, Jan, Wood, 147 x 129 cm

Polack arrived from Cracow (Poland) to Munich around 1480 and later he became there the most significant painter of his time. He was probably influenced by Veit Stoss and the altar painting in Cracow.

The present picture shows one of the panels of the main altarpiece of the Cloister of Weihenstephan. The town of Freising and the cloister are depicted on the painting with topographic precisity.
