The Htel Duret de Chevry, built by Jean Thiriot between 1618 and 1620, is one of the last htels built in brick during the period of the reign of Henry IV and the Regency. It is articulated with a main building between courtyard and garden, flanked by two common wings on the courtyard. It is a typical house of the period which shows the architect’s love of complicated rustication, of stone chaines and quoins and of unusually shaped pediments filled with low reliefs.

The building was enlarged in 1641 and later sold to Mazarin. It is now houses the Institut historique allemand.
