BAST, Pieter

(b. ~1550 Antwerpen, d. 1605 Leiden)

Dutch cartographer, engraver and draftsman. He was the child of Josyntje Plantin, who was part of the famous printer Plantin family.

Bast engraved maps of Dutch cities, among them Emden, Middelburg, Dordrecht, Leeuwarden, Franeker, Leiden, and Utrecht. His most important work of historical significance was the map of Amsterdam, published in 1599.
