Cosimo I de' Medici in Parade Armour

This engraving shows Cosimo I de’ Medici in classical parade armour in a stance that had by this time become standard in Florentine portraiture. The inscription on upper left indicates that the print is based on a design by Baccio Bandinelli, of whom the engraver also did an engraved portrait. Cosimo’s armour has a very elaborate decoration including two of Hercules’s labour on the leg pieces.
