This painting, signed and dated 1622, depicting an elegant couple with a dog in a forested landscape with other figures in the background probably belonged to a series of allegories of the Four Seasons. If so, it would represent the Summer. Two other known paintings of similar dimensions, signed and dated 1622, one showing an outdoor market scene of vegetables, with elaborately dressed figures, and another depicting an elegant company on ice with skaters in the background, would represent Autumn and Winter, respectively.
