DEBUT, Marcel

(b. 1865 Paris, d. 1933 Paris)

French sculptor, son of the sculptor Jean Didier Debut (1824-1893). He studied under Henri Chapu at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1883 until the outbreak of the First World War.

He is best known for his sculptures of people.

Though Marcel Debut is best known for his sculptures of people he also did the present model of a Deerhound which shows the style of the impressionistic form of art. Deerhound is a large breed of hound, once bred to hunt the Red Deer by coursing.
