DIEST, Jeronymus van (II)

(b. 1634 Den Haag, d. 1684 London)

Dutch painter, son of the painter Willem Hermansz van Diest (1610-ca. 1684). He was the pupil of his father and a follower of Jan van Goyen. He lived and worked in his entire life in The Hague; he became a member of the Oranje Vaendel (civic guard) in 1654. He married Catharina van der Hegge in 1655; and married Dina Leemans in 1666. His last archival mention in The Hague was on 24 March 1675. Between 1672 and 1684 he was in London where he and his wife Dina Leemans were members of the Dutch Church in 1677. He probably died in London.

He was the teacher of his painter son Adriaen van Diest (1655-1704).
