Flower painters were regarded particularly highly in the second half of the 18th century. Jan Frans Eliaerts painted this sumptuous bouquet of flowers which, in terms of composition, continues the tradition established in the final quarter of the 17th century. The choice of flowers and the cool colouring are typical of their time.
