The ceiling of the library of the Santo in Padua was painted by Ferdinando Focchi, a pupil of Canuti, in a well-documented commission. The central panel by Giovanni Antonio Pellegrini is surrounded by elaborate quadratura and numerous symbols of scholarship. The Virgin in the centre appears before a number of Franciscan saints as the Immaculata.
