Dutch painter, one of the seventeenth-century marine small masters. He was the pupil of Jan Porcellis, and some of his work owes a debt of style to Porcellis.

The painting depicts a walled city on an estuary with small vessels in the foreground. Traditionally but wrongly identified as Veere, this picture appears to portray a capriccio view of a Zealand seaport such as Veere, Middelburg and Vlissingen.
