PARRA ABRIL, Miguel

(b. 1784 Valencia, d. 1846 Valencia)

Spanish painter. He studied in the Bellas Artes de la Academia de San Carlos in Valencia and received awards very early, in 1795 and 1798. He was a pupil of Benito Espinós (1748-1818), a painter of flower still-life, but he also painted portraits under the influence of Vicente López.

In 1803 he was received in the Academy for flower paintings, and in 1811 for history painting. In 1815 he was appointed as court painter to Ferdinand VII. In 1818 became a professor at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid. In 1821 returned to Valencia as director of painting at the Academy of San Carlos.

He is mainly known for his flower pieces.
