PELLEGRINI, Girolamo

Italian painter belonging to the Roman school. He worked also in Venice where he frescoed in the church of Santi Cosma e Damiano the side lunettes, the apse, the drum and the dome with biblical and evangelical subjects. He painted also frescoes in the Scuola Grande di San Rocco, Venice.

His art was a meeting point of the Roman tradition represented by Pietro da Cortona and the Venetian painting of Pietro Liberi.

Girolamo Pellegrini was a Roman painter of frescoes. In Venice he attempted to strengthen the tradition of Paolo Veronese by bringing the decorative Roman Baroque style of Pietro da Cortona.

This smooth and luminous painting depicts Charity with the torch of Religion in front of the poor and sick presented by St Roch.
