Portrait of Cosimo de' Medici the Elder

Alessandro Pieroni was an Italian architect and painter. His son Giovanni Pieroni was also an architect. He worked for the Medici in Florence and Tuscany (especially in Livorno).

This portrait is derived from Pontormo’s prototype. The numerous copies of Pontormo’s painting testify to the popularity enjoyed by Cosimo the Elder.
