RIJN, Titus van

(b. 1641 Amsterdam, d. 1668 Amsterdam)

Dutch painter, the son of Rembrandt and Saskia. Of the three children born previously to Rembrandt and Saskia, one died at two months, the others at two weeks. He was trained as an artist, presumably by Rembrandt.

After Rembrandt’s bankruptcy in 1656, Titus and his stepmother Hendrickje Stoffels were named as in charge of Rembrandt’s affairs and began an art-dealership, specializing in Rembrandt’s work.

He did not shine as an artist, but he seems like a nice young man. He helped his father in business, gave him a grandchild and died young.
