This engraving was executed after a painting by Titian. It shows Venus and Adonis embracing. Adonis holds an arrow in his right hand, at the right appear three dogs.

The painting by Titian was initially painted as one of a series of eight mythological subjects for King Philip II of Spain. There are more than thirty painted and engraved versions of this painting, some of which were painted by Titian himself, while others were produced by members of his workshop, and still others were the work of later copyists.
