SOMEREN, Hendrick van

(b. 1615 Amsterdam, d. 1685 Napoli)

Hendrick van Someren (or Somer), Dutch painter, active in Italy. He was the son of the painter Barend van Someren (1572-1635) and the grandson of Aert Mijtens (1556-1601), the eldest known member of the Mijtens family of painters.

He was the pupil of his father and of Jusepe de Ribera. At least one of his works had a forged signature of Ribera. He is perhaps the same painter sometimes referred to as Enrico Fiammingo.

Hendrick van Somer (called Enrico Fiammingo) was a Dutch painter active in Italy. He was a distinguished pupil of Jusepe de Ribera in Naples. His St Jerome shows the strong influence of Ribera’s painting of the same subject.
