Spring

by TOMMASI, Adolfo, Oil on canvas, 150 x 200 cm

A frequent companion of Fattori, Signorini, and Lega, Tommasi practiced outdoor painting to achieve a high level of veracity. He owned a family villa at Bellariva, where his main artistic interest was the landscape and peasant life of Tuscany. The picture of an artichoke field was well received at an exhibition in Florence in 1892, where KIng Umberto I immediately purchased it for the recently founded Gallery of Modern Art.
