Portrait of a Bearded Man
by QUESNEL, François, Black and red chalk with wash, 303 x 223 mm
This portrait depicts a bearded man in a three-quarter pose, with his head slightly turned to the left, gazing towards the viewer. The drawing is one of a set of eleven portraits of unidentified sitters (two male, nine female) at Windsor in the style established by Jean Clouet, and familiar from hundreds of surviving portraits by his French followers.
